Fighting Techniques
Technique |
Information |
|
First Used By: Vegita Color: Blue-white Type: Beam
Used by putting one's hand to a 90 degree angle of the wrist, the Big Bang is a slow moving, highly destructive attack. It can cause major damage and does not take very long to charge. |
|
|
First Used By: Tsuru-sennin Color: N/A Type: Maneuvering
With the concentration of ki energy, it allows the Z warriors to defy gravity and soar through the heavens. Almost every major character has this talent. |
|
Bunkai Teleportation (Instantaneous Movement)
First Used By: Janemba Color: N/A Type: Maneuvering
Janemba's unique way of changing locations, also known as the "Cube Fade." This teleportation differs from Kai Kai and Shunkan Idou in that Janemba shifts between dimensions rather than manipulating time. |
|
|
First Used By: Trunks Color: Yellow Type: Projectile
Even though the move is very flashy, it's relatively weak. The Burning Attack is primarily used as a distraction (say from...Trunks' sword). It's slow, weak, and easy to see. Perfect for shifting attention from a real threat. |
|
|
First Used By: Furiza Color: Orange Type: Projectile
A staple of Furiza, he uses this attack repeatedly. It's a spectacular attack, growing from a singular point into a ball the size of a small moon. Unfortunately, it also moves with the speed of a small moon. It easily has enough energy to obliterate a planet. |
|
|
First Used By: Namu Color: N/A Type: Melee
Namu's most devastating move, the Diving X is performed by putting one's forearms into an X formation and diving onto an opponent (the name says it all). This move is rather painful to watch, as usually Namu strikes the head or neck. |
|
|
First Used By: Tsuru-sennin Color: Variable Type: Beam
One of Tao Pie Pie's favorite moves, the Dodonpa is a narrow beam of energy with a very large head. It competes power-wise with the Kame Hame Ha. |
|
|
First Used By: Vegita Color: Yellow Type: Beam
An ability unique to Vegita, it is quite similar to the Kame Hame Ha (although taking much longer to charge and causing more damage over a larger area). It is somewhat slow-moving, but one of the most powerful attacks in the series. |
|

|
First Used By: Trunks and Goten Color: N/A Type: Other
When two warriors find that they are overwhelmed by a greater power, they have little choice but to fuse into one. This is done by performing the fusion dance, which when done correctly, will create a being that is much more powerful than the two subjects. The dance is fairly simple: both subjects side-step towards each other with identical movements while saying the word "Fusion." When they get next to each other they tough index fingers. The fused warrior takes on the characteristics of both involved, but usually looks more like one than the other. |
|
Gekitotsu Ultra Buu Buu Volley Ball
First Used By: Gotenks (Piccolo helps kick it around) Color: Yellow Type: Projectile
Probably the longest name for an attack in the series. This particular Gotenks conception involves crushing the target into a sphere of energy and kicking the ball like it was the World Cup in Brazil. It inflicts a tremendous amount of pain...if the target survives it. |
|
|
First Used By: Goku Color: Blue-white Type: Projectile
By borrowing a tiny bit of energy from all living things on a planet or in a planetary system, Goku can create a devasting ball of energy that obliterates anything with an "evil" Ki. It takes a very, very long time to charge up. Characters with "good" Ki can manipulate the Genki-dama after it has been gathered without the fear of being harmed themselves. |
|
|
First Used By: Buu Color: Yellow Type: Beam
When you just can't wait to get to the candy store. This is one of Buu's unique attacks that gives him a burst of power. Basically, he converts a target into some sort of food item (usually candy) and devours them, absorbing their energy. |
|
|
First Used By: Zarbon Color: N/A Type: Power-up
When a being runs into an opponent it cannot defeat in its orignal self, it often transforms into a more powerful state. This process usually takes a long time, and wastes a lot of energy. Creatures that do have the ability to transform avoid it, because the shape-shifting puts a lot of strain on their bodies. |
|
|
First Used By: Androids Color: N/A Type: Maneuvering
Hikou is the ability to fly around without the use of Ki. Only the androids can do this. |
|
Kai Kai (Instantaneous Movement)
First Used By: Dai-Kaioshin Color: N/A Type: Maneuvering
The ability of a creature to move from one location to another without the passage of time. The difference between this technique and Shukan Idou is that Kai Kai does not require a Ki target. Some especially powerful magicians are capable of teleporting other people as well. |
|
|
First Used By: Goku Color: Red Type: Power-up
Devised by the North Kaio (who cannot even perform it himself), the Kaio-ken is a powering technique that enables a person to move faster and hit harder. The technique must be used sparingly however, as the more it is used the more the body of caster becomes damaged. |
|
|
First Used By: Kame-sennin Color: Blue-white Type: Beam
Devised by Mutenroshi, the Kame Hame Ha is an extension of one's Ki that is expelled through one's hands. Hand position is generally in the shape of an open clam. The direction of the blast can be controlled in mid-air, and combined with other techniques becomes quite devastating. |
|

|
First Used By: Kuririn Color: Yellow (Kuririn), Purple (Furiza) Type: Projectile
A flat, circular plane of energy, a Kienzan can cut through almost any surface. It has this ability because, like a knife, its edge is very thin. Although the person using this technique generally has more success when they have a higher power level, it also allows weak adversaries to take out strong ones in a single blow. Furiza's Kienzans home in on their targets, while Kuririn's can split into several smaller disks after being launched. |
|
|
First Used By: Tenshinhan Color: Yellow Type: Beam
Tenshinhan's signature move, it is performed by shaping one's hands into a triangle. It sacrifices the life force of who is casting it in order to boost the attack's strength. Almost impossible to dodge, it is similar to the Taiyoken, but affects a smaller radius and is much more concentrated. |
|
|
First Used By: Piccolo Color: Red (Piccolo), Purple (Furiza and Koola) Type: Beam
Very thin and concentrated, this technique is used to make a precise hit on a target and do major damage. It has a limited range, but moves very fast. |
|
|
First Used By: Janemba Color: N/A Type: Melee
Another unique Janemba move. He creates a small hole in space and time with an entrace and an exit. This allows him to sock his enemies from afar without moving his entire body. |
|

|
First Used By: Buu Color: N/A Type: Merging
The act of absorbing another's body in order to use its strength and energy. Creatures that assimilate take the characteristics of their victim, and any of their abilities. Power increases exponentially rather than additively. For instance, when Cell absorbs #17, it's more like Cell x #17 rather than Cell + #17 (Not exactly, but you get the point). The downside is that weaknesses are also carried over to the host. Most of the time, the process is reversible. |
|
|
First Used By: Mutaito-sennin Color: Green Type: Area
Sacrifices the life of the user to trap a demon within a denshi jar. Both Kame-sennin and Kami-sama try to use this on Piccolo. Kame fails and dies, Kami fails and has the attack reversed on him. |
|
Makankosappo (Special Beam Cannon)
First Used By: Piccolo Color: Yellow Type: Beam
A highly condensed beam of energy, the Makankosappo can pierce the strongest of armor. It is cast by putting ones first two fingers on the forehead. The makankosappo is faster than a bullet, but takes a few minutes to charge to a reasonable strength. |
|
|
First Used By: Gohan Color: Yellow Type: Beam
Basically Gohan's version of the Kame Hame Ha, the only difference is that it is charged above the head and hurled like a soccer throw. |
|
|
First Used By: Bibidi Color: N/A Type: Other
The ability to bend others to one's will. In the manga, only Bibidi and his son are capable of controlling others. However, the target must have evil in their hearts, or else controlling them is impossible (Vegita had reached a stage where good and evil were balanced within him, and thus Babidi could not take full control). |
|
|
First Used By: Unknown Color: N/A Type: Power-up
When exposed to the light of a full moon, a Saiya-jin involuntarily transforms into a giant monkey-like beast. While in this form the Saiya-jin's power is greatly increased. There are two ways to reverse it, one is to chop off the tail, and the other is to get rid of the source of moonlight. |
|
|
First Used By: Android #19 and #20 Color: N/A Type: Power-up
Since android #19 and #20 do not contain internal power supplies, they must rely on absorbing the ki energy of others through two red receptors on the palms of their hands. This allows them to fight as long as there is someone to steal power from. |
|
|
First Used By: Vegita Color: White Type: Other
With the moon long since destroyed (twice), Vegita had to find a new way to change into an Oozaru. The power ball emits light similar to the light produced by a full moon. This allows Vegita to transform whenever he pleases. And yes, that's the official name of the technique according to the Daizenshuu. |
|
|
First Used By: Piccolo Color: Blue-green Type: Projectile
This attack surrounds the enemy with dozens of Ki packets, which then collapse upon the poor target. This lets all the energy hit at the same time, rendering it very powerful. |
|
|
First Used By: Android #16 Color: N/A Type: Projectile
A devastating ranged attack of Android #16, the rocket punch packs an incredible force. The hand does not explode on contact, and can be re-attached after firing. |
|
|
First Used By: Goku Color: Gold Type: Melee
Goku's ferocious dragon fist, capable of piercing the toughest of enemies. A golden dragon is unleashed by this powerful attack, which then proceeds to tear his enemy apart. Goku uses the Ryuken in movie #13 and DBGT. |
|
|
First Used By: Piccolo Color: N/A Type: Other
Although most species can heal themselves over time, few can regrow limbs or heal themselves in an instant. This technique, known as "saisei," enables a being to restore themselves to full health, although often this process lowers their power level significantly. |
|
|
First Used By: Dabura Color: Grey Type: Projectile
Dabura spits a deadly substance out of his mouth that turns the target into stone. The process reverses if Dabura is killed. |
|
Shunkan Idou (Instantaneous Movement)
First Used By: Yardrat-jin Color: N/A Type: Maneuvering
The ability of a creature to move from one location to another without the passage of time. This particular technique requires a person to lock on to. Anyone touching the subject when they are phasing to a new location will be teleported as well. |
|
Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack
First Used By: Gotenks Color: White Type: Spawn
One of Gotenks' many ridiculous attacks, this one is fairly creative. Gotenks launches several ghost clones of himself that destroy themselves upon contact with another person (or each other). Unfortunately, the clones are unbelievably stupid. The explosion packs quite a wallop, enough to cripple Buu. |
|
|
First Used By: Legendary Super Saiya-jin Color: N/A Type: Power-up
A highly powerful form, Super Saiya-jin is only released with intense rage by a Saiya-jin with a pure heart (Good or evil). During this state, the Saiya-jin's hair will turn bright blond in color, and the eyes become a greenish-blue tone. Half human, half Saiya-jin hybrids tend to go SSJ at a younger age than pure bloods. |
|
|
First Used By: Gohan Color: N/A Type: Power-up
An extremely powerful state, SSJ2 is even more damaging than the ultra-buff USSJ, without the hit in speed and manuverability. It is characterized by bolts of electricity that streak around and through whoever reaches this level. Hair becomes more rigid, otherwise there's very little difference from SSJ. |
|
|
First Used By: Goku Color: N/A Type: Power-up
Another leap in power level occurs when someone attains SSJ3. This transformation alters the body somewhat; the eyebrows disappear and the Saiya-jin's hair grows thick, full, and VERY long. |
|
|
First Used By: Goku Color: N/A Type: Power-up
The most powerful transformation in the three series. This form renders the subject a half-ape with pink fur. There are endless debates on whether this is a true SSJ level, but we're going to have to go with common consensus and say that it is. And no, there is no SSJ5. |
|
|
First Used By: Tenshinhan Color: Bright White Type: Area
Cast by fanning ones hands over the face. Generates a tremendous amount of light, temporarily blinding any nearby enemies. It's a fairly easy trick, and many of the Z warriors use it. |
|
|
First Used By: Dai-Kaioshin Color: N/A Type: Other
The ability to communicate long-distance using one's mind. It does not provide any control over the target. |
|
|
First Used By: Paikuhan Color: Orange Type: Blast
A very powerful fire attack launched from the fists. Paikuhan uses this against Goku in the Heavens Tournament. |
|
Ultra Super Saiya-jin [USSJ]
First Used By: Trunks or Vegita Color: N/A Type: Power-up
A sort of mid-level between SSJ and SSJ2, USSJ is a very strong, yet very slow form. It takes a long time to attain, and produces a lot of stress on the muscles causing them to vastly increase in size. |
|
|
First Used By: Kame-sennin Color: N/A Type: Maneuvering
Dematerializing and quickly moving to another spot close by. Leaves a silhouette of the person for a short period of time in their original location, causing the "blur" effect. Most major characters in the series have this ability. |
CHARACTER BIOS
Here is a brief description of each race. Click on the race to get their character biographies
Saiyans
The best fighters in Dragonball were saiyans basically. They are probably the strongest race in the universe. They can become stronger after each battle. They come from the planet Vegeta, which was destroyed by Frieza and there are only a handful of them left. They have the ability to go Oozaru on a full moon and they can turn into super saiyans which makes them even more powerful then they originally were.
This is a list of the Human Z fighters. They are obviously of the human race but they are not even close to as powerful as the saiyans, but they are much more powerful than the average human.
This is a list of normal humans, and other characters which basically dont have enough fighting skill to help out the z fighters but they do play a big role in the series.
These green beings come from the planet namek. They have the ability to regenerate lost body parts but they arent too great of fighters, at least most of them. There is an exception for Piccolo. Some nameks like Kami, or Dende were key characters in the dragonball series.
This is not a race obviously. They are the bad guys of the dragonball series and basically are the reason why this show was very good. If it wasnt for them there would be no fighting.
The androids were created by Dr. Gero and are very powerful. They are robots who act and look like humans. They dont loose their power levels and their power cannot be detected.
This also is not a race but are characters who were fused together to form one very powerful fighter. There were few characters to do so but check it out.
These are characters straight from the dragonballz movies.
DBZ Movie #1 - Return my Gohan!! |

Our Rating:
4 of 7 - Somewhat boring, though humorous at times. |
Released in: Japan, America (The Dead Zone) Japanese Release Date: 7/15/1989 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The story begins with Piccolo training in the wilderness, muttering about defeating Goku in the next Budoukai. He is ambushed by three mysterious warriors, members of the Makyo race. The three of them gang up on Piccolo, and in typical DBZ movie fashion, beat the crap out of him. They smash him into a mountain, and you see one lone shadowy figure, talking about how Piccolo's death means that Kami is gone as well, and soon the world will be his! The next scene switches to Gohan, studying some books, and setting a standard that would haunt him for the rest of his life. His studying is interrupted by a visit from Gyuu Maou, laden with presents (All books O_o). While delivering the packaged textbooks, Gyuu Maou falls victim to one of the three demons (he survives). The short, irritating creature demands the Dragon ball on Gohan's hat, and he and his two comerades proceed to beat up Chichi and kidnap Gohan. Goku, sensing that something is wrong, rushes back to his injured wife and father-in-law, and then begins his mission to find whoever did this. Meanwhile our villain, Garlic Jr, succeeds where all other DB/DBZ villains had failed: he is granted immortality. Reveling in his newfound eternal life, Garlic Jr. decides not to kill Gohan outright but instead to train him. From there comes one of the funniest scenes in DBZ, involving a demon, Gohan, some alcoholic apples, and millions of dancing purple dinosaurs and multicoloured fuzz-balls. After the majority of the joke is over, Goku arrives to challenge Garlic Jr. and his henchmen. He begins a fight with the three demons; Ginger, Nikki, and Sansho by name. During the fight, Kami comes in to face Garlic Jr. himself, showing that neither he nor Piccolo had actually died. It is revealed that 300 years ago, Kami had a rival to the throne: a demon named Garlic. Kami made it, garlic didn't. So, being the well-to-do demon that he was, Garlic called up the demon hordes and was then consequently locked up for eternity. Now seeking revenge, Garlic Jr. wants the throne that his father coveted. Garlic Jr. and Kami fight, while Goku fights the demons inside the castle. He is assisted by Kuririn and Piccolo; Kuririn gets Gohan out to safety (or at least tries to), while Piccolo and Goku make short work of the henchmen. Kami loses his fight against the now-immortal Garlic Jr., and the Namek/Saiya-jin team pick up the battle. At this point, one of the most dramatic transformations takes place: 3-foot Garlic Jr. becomes 12-foot Garlic Jr. The fight resumes in pure late DB-style, ending with Garlic Jr. creating a portal to a "Dead Zone," and accidentally sucking himself in when Gohan gets angry and starts blasting things.
Our Thoughts: While not one of the best of the DBZ movies, Return my Gohan! does have some comedic value, and the animation/background artwork, particularly with Garlic Jr's castle, is incredible. The movie suffers from a lack of, well, life in the plot, and was really saved only by the humor and visuals. The alcoholic apples scene really must be seen to be believed. |
DBZ Movie #2 - The World's Strongest Man |

Our Rating:
4.5 of 7 - Excellent animation, but poor plot. |
Released in: Japan, America (The World's Strongest) Japanese Release Date: 3/10/1990 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: Oolong has "borrowed" Buruma's Dragon Radar, and discovers that someone is gathering the Dragon Balls. He tells Gohan what's up, and they decide to go north into the mountains. There they find a mysterious man named Dr. Kochin, who has just summoned Shenron. He wishes for Dr. Wheelo and his lab to break free of their icy prison. Gohan and Oolong are ambushed by Wheelo's henchmen, and Piccolo steps in to save them. He is captured by Wheelo's androids, but Son Gohan and his pig companion escape. Dr. Kochin flies to the Kame house, and kidnaps Buruma to force Kame-sennin to come with him. Wheelo wishes to possess the body of the world's strongest body, as he lost his in the accident that encased him in ice. Since Dr. Wheelo was trapped in the ice for 50 years, he believes Kame is the best fighter on Earth. To test the martial arts master, Wheelo makes him fight the three androids. Kame-sennin actually holds his ground for half a minute...then he is smacked around and electrocuted. Goku learns of what happened, and flies to the mountains to rescue his friends. He is confronted with a number of tests, including a battle with the fat android named Minkatsun. After puncturing the android, he is joined by his son and Kuririn in battle. The two other androids, Kishime and Ebifuraiya, prove to be a challenge at first. They both fall to Goku's Kaio-ken technique. At this point, Dr. Wheelo reveals his most powerful follower: Piccolo. Son Goku does battle with his old enemy, infuriating Gohan. Dr. Kochin doesn't make things better with his inflammatory comments and energy staff. In a blind rage, Gohan shatters Piccolo's mind-controlling gold veins, and does serious damage to the ship. Kuririn confronts Dr. Kochin, who greets our bald hero with a heavy machine gun. Kame-sennin leaps in and chops off Kochin's pesky weapon, saving his student from a few painful wounds. Now with all his henchmen disabled, Dr. Wheelo is forced to do battle himself. His metal body is extremely powerful, and withstands a full-force Kame Hame Ha from all the Z warriors. Wheelo loses an arm in the battle, and decides that he'll just wipe out the Earth. Gohan, Kuririn and Piccolo follow him up into space, and do battle while Goku charges a Genki-dama. Goku eventually gets his attack off just as Wheelo is launching his planet smashing attack, and the villain is destroyed.
Our Thoughts: I personally enjoyed this movie for a number of reasons: We're treated to outstanding animation, there are gorgeous views of the mountains and the Earth, and Kame-sennin gets his hands dirty (not in that way, you pervs). The animation seemed a lot cleaner than movie #3, even though it was produced before. Evil Piccolo just looks menacing. Out of the three movies released in the U.S, this is the best one by far. |
DBZ Movie #3 - Ultimate Decisive Battle for Earth |

Our Rating:
    3.5 of 7 - "Dry" animation, boring plot. |
Released in: Japan, America (Tree of Might) Japanese Release Date: 7/7/1990 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: A small probe from Outer Space lands and causes a forest fire. Gohan and Kuririn manage to put out the fire and save a small purple dragon, but the forest is destroyed. Saddened, they gather the dragon balls, and Gohan wishes the Forest back to its earlier state. The next morning, the probe activates and starts scouting out the earth. It reports back to a strange group of Space Pirates, led by a mysterious leader. They decide that the planet is suitable for growing "Shinseiju (Tree of Might)," and plant the seed. The Shinseiju literally demolishes several square miles in its growth, and starts sucking the life out of everything. The tree is made to bear fruit for the gods (Think the Immortality peaches in the old Chinese Myths). Goku, Kuririn, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and Yamcha all rush to the base of the tree (Gohan was told by his mother to stay home), where they face off against the Pirates. Gohan sneaks away from his mother to fight, and runs into a Saiya-jin, the leader of the pirates, who looks exactly like his dad. Tares grabs Gohan, and recognizing that he's part Saiya-jin, creates a fake moon. Oozaru Gohan comes after Goku first, and a small fight begins between them. This fight lasts until Gohan sees Higher Dragon, in which Gohan's short attention span is diverted. Enraged, Tares blows the Dragon away, and then attacks Gohan. Goku cuts off the Gohan's tail, and sets him aside where he's safe. Having defeated the rest of the Z warriors, Tares' henchmen surround our hero. Goku takes them all on and kills the lot with ease. Tares resumes the fight, and they find that their power levels are nearly equal. Tares grabs some of the fruit from the Tree, and takes a healthy bite. He then trashes Goku, leaving him for dead. Goku attempts to make a Genki-dama, and the other heroes band together against Tares to stall for time. The villain defeats them all with ease, and concentrates back on Goku just in time to see him lob the ball of energy. Tares deflects the Genki-dama, and is totally unaffected. The earth had been drained so much that it was impossible to gather any real energy. Goku begins draining energy from the Tree of might itself, until he builds one last Genki-dama. He then confronts Tares for the last time, and hits him with the attack. Both Tares and the tree are destroyed, and all of the energy taken by the tree is restored to the earth.
Our Thoughts: Not the best (or worst) DBZ movie you can watch. Tree of Might has a few good points in it, but overall the lack of character originality, and the strange plot holes--like why the Heck Tares looks like Goku--detract from the film. |
DBZ Movie #4 - Super Saiya-jin Goku |

Our Rating:
2 of 7 - Pure cheese, the worst of the movies. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 3/19/1991 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The fourth DBZ Movie starts out with a scene of Piccolo meditating by a waterfall--something that he does often. His quiet time is interrupted by Gohan and Higher Dragon. Gohan has taught his little pet dragon to dance to his whistling, and he wants to show it to Mr. Piccolo! Before the Namek can stop him, Gohan begins his little song-and dance routine. Before the sickening display becomes enough to harm us, though, Piccolo screams out in pain (I would, too, but this is apparently because Namek's can't stand human whistling), and Gohan is forced to stop. Then, after that little "cute scene," the actual "plot" begins. In the movie, a giant planetoid looks like it's going to hit the earth, yet explodes just before it makes impact. The inhabitants of the planet, a group of space-pirates, land on the Earth in their little ship to terraform it and use it as a new home base. They are a bunch of horned, sun-sensitive oddities led by Lord Slug--a strangely familiar green alien. Slug learns of the Dragonballs by reading Bulma's mind; he immediately collects them and makes his wish: restore his youth. After becoming young again, the fight begins. Gohan and Piccolo face off against Slug's three main henchman: Dorodabo, a fat gargoyle (Blown to bits by Piccolo early), Angira, a Zarbon look-alike, and Medametcha, an extremely strange frog with the ability to create energy-sucking clones of himself. After a little bit of fighting, Goku steps in and kills Medametcha and Angira rather easily. Then it's Goku vs. Slug in one of the most predictable DBZ movie battles ever. Slug Trashes Goku. Goku goes "Super Saiya-jin" (Well, not really...his hair remains black) Goku trashes Slug. Slug proves to all that he's a Namek. Slug grows to super size and trashes Goku. Piccolo joins in and gets hurt. Ho-hum. Then more wierdness enters the story, as Piccolo tells Gohan to whistle--causing Slug to fall to his knees in pain. Goku flies through Slug's stomach, and then creates a small Genki-dama and defeats the Evil namek. The Earth returns to normal, birds sing, and Master Roshi wakes up from his nap and comments about the beautiful weather.
Our Thoughts: There is a running debate over which DBZ movie is worse: 4, or 11. Basically everything was done wrong in this movie. The characters were flat, the plot sucked, the villains were wasted (Just look at Zeeun in the beginning), and the humor was about as funny as eating stale yogurt. The "Super Saiya-jin" transformation need not be mentioned. In fact, the only good points of the movie were Piccolo's reaction to Gohan's whistling (hehe), and the look on Slug's face right before he killed one of his henchmen for calling him old (Classic). So, get this movie only if you really want to see EVERYTHING, or if you're in a weird mood. Either way, we'll forgive you. |
DBZ Movie #5 - The Best of Strongest Vs. Strongest |

Our Rating:
4 of 7 - Nice samurai action, less focus on Goku for a change. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 7/20/1991 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The movie begins with a scene of Freeza destroying Planet Vegeta, despite Bardock's efforts. We see Goku's pod escape, and we are introduced to Koola (Furiza's brother) who tells his henchman to leave Goku alone, since this is Furiza's territory. At this point there is a flash forward to the present. After a little comedy, Goku, Oolong, Kuririn and Gohan go camping. Koola, after hearing of Furiza's death, decides he must kill all living Saiya-jin. After some beating Koola's henchmen, Koola and Goku go at, only for Goku to escape injured. After some commotion and a bit of luck, Kuririn, Oolong, father, and son are able to convene. Gohan is delegated to get Senzu beans, and has little trouble thanks to Yajirobi's generosity. Gohan is caught by Koola's henchmen on his way back, but he is quickly saved by Piccolo (surprise, surprise) until Koola himself intervenes and knocks him out. Gohan makes a getaway, and as he is giving the bag of senzu beans to Kuririn, one of Koola's henchmen blasts it to smithereens. Gohan, however, was given an extra senzu bean by Yajirobi, which he had tucked under his belt. He gives it to his father just before he receives a thorough ass wompin' from the henchman Sauza. As Goku is about to launch an attack on Sauza, Koola appears with Piccolo's unconcious body and does some further damage to it. Goku knocks Sauza away (and into a mountain) and begins to fight with Koola. They duel for a while, and Koola decides to transform. After Koola forms a ki attack powerful enough to destroy Earth, Goku realizes his failure, and after some sadness goes SSJ. He easily does away with Koola's energy technique, and proves that Koola has nothing on a Super Saiya-jin. Koola's last resort is to put a little distance between him and Goku and form an even more powerful planet destroying attack, which Goku catches, and eventually Kamehameha's right back at Koola. Koola is pushed into the sun by his own attack, and by the same Saiya-jin he refused to kill. (How very ironic!) Before a full happy ending can ensue, however, Sauza reappears. Piccolo kills him with ease. Then we get a little comedy, as the Namek-jin nonchalantly blows off Gohan.
Our Thoughts: Movie #5 is one that will leave you saying "ho-hum." Definitely not the most exciting movie, but still with its moments. The animation is pretty good, but definitely not near the top. It's unfortunate that the three movies (5, 10, and 11) where Goku sees little or no action are mediocre at best. Would be fun to see Piccolo or Gohan have movies where they are the main characters. Even with my quarrels, I still recommend this movie. Why? Because it provides the back-story to what I believe is the greatest of the films: Movie #6. |
DBZ Movie #6 - Clash!! 10,000,000,000 Power Warriors |

Our Rating:
6.5 of 7 - Great animation and story, fun to watch. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 3/7/1992 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: Our story begins on New Namek, where a giant, planet-sized machine begins to devour the world. The Z warriors catch wind of the plot, and fly off to the crippled planet. By this time, all the inhabitants of Namek have been captured by advanced battle droids, and are being led off to a prison camp where they are to be executed. However, our heros arrive just in time, and save the Nameks from certain death. As the droids prepare for battle, the leader of the machine army, Metal Cooler, reveals himself. He explains that after Cooler was blasted into the sun, the space-faring Big Ghetti Star came across his remains and assimilated Cooler's brain. The only way to sustain the tremendous sphere is to sap large amounts of energy from the cores of planets and its inhabitants. Piccolo, Kuririn, and Gohan begin battle with the robots, but their armor proves to be exceedingly tough to puncture. While his friends are occupied with the droid army, Goku begins to battle Metal Cooler. It isn't long until Goku gains the upper hand, and knocks off one of Metal Cooler's arms. Unfortunately, Cooler regenerates his limb, and informs our hero that the Big Ghetti Star instantaneously corrects weaknesses and repairs damage. Now with better tactics, Metal Cooler begins to win the fight. Yet out of nowhere, Vegita comes to the rescue, and joins Goku in his foray. Meanwhile, Kuririn and Gohan have been captured by the droids, and flown to the prison camp. Only Piccolo remains, and with a huge burst of energy, he evaporates the remaining droids. With the army destroyed, Piccolo flies to the heart of the Big Ghetti Star. Vegita and Goku attack Metal Cooler at full strength, and turn his body into such a fine powder that no regeneration is possibly. Thinking that they have won, they are shocked to see hundreds of Metal Cooler's sliding down a nearby ridge, and running straight towards them. The next thing they know, they are hanging in the main chamber of the Big Ghetti Star by thousands of tiny electrodes. Cooler begins to steal their energy, but finds that the Ki of a Super Saiya-jin is too much to handle. With overloading batteries, the Big Ghetti Star begins to self-destruct. Goku and Vegita, in a final showdown with the massive core of the world-eater, destroy Cooler's remains. The good guys barely manage an escape, and the Big Ghetti Star explodes in a fireball. Namek is left scarred, but no blood is shed this day.
Our Thoughts: This is, by far, my favorite Dragonball movie. The animation and music are far above the standard, and the battle droids are just plain cool-looking. The plot is fairly simple, but it is different from the usual "all-powerful being arrives, Z warriors must kill it." Instead, we are treated with a tale about a giant, ever-evolving spore colony. My one complaint would have to be the length of the movie: it was just too darn short. Many of the fight scenes seemed compressed for time, and the 45 minutes just didn't do it justice. This is one of the better anime films available, and even casual DBZ fans should own a copy. |
DBZ Movie #7 - Utmost Limits of Battle!! The Three Super Saiya-jin |

Our Rating:
6 of 7 - Some great panning shots, interesting characters. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 7/11/1992 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The trouble starts when two odd looking androids (#15 and #14) make their way through the streets toward a hotel where Goku, Gohan, Kuririn, Master Roshi, Oolong, Chichi, and Trunks are staying. They wreak havoc as they blow up buildings and cars and send people screaming in terror. Eventually they locate Goku and destroy his temporary residence. The Z warriors rescue everyone in the skyscraper before it fully collapses. Trunks reminds Goku that they will only hurt civilians if they continue to fight in the city. As a result, Goku flies, chased by the two androids, to some uninhabited ice plains. There they battle, and we see that yet another robot has been released from Dr. Gero's laboratory. This robot, #13, tells Goku that the and the others were created by Dr. Gero's computer, and though Dr. Gero is dead, his computer magnified his hatred for Goku many times over, and created #13, #14, and #15 as a result. As they fight, it is clear that the androids are gaining the upper hand (Goku fights #13, while Mirai Trunks takes #14 and #15). Vegita comes to help out Goku, because he wants to save the victory over Goku to himself. There is now one Saiya-jin per android (Vegita takes #15). Soon, all the Saiya-jin go SSJ. Vegita and Trunks make short work of their foes. Gohan tries to help his father, but is shot at, and saved by Piccolo, who helps Goku take on #13. #13 absorbs the batteries and processing units of the two fallen androids after realizes they have been disposed of. With the power of the other two androids within him, android #13 is transformed into Super 13. This blue monstrosity makes short work of all the Z warriors but Goku. He continues to pummel Goku until Goku falls under water, at which point he turns his attention to Gohan. Gohan sees that Goku is gathering energy for a Genki-dama, and one by one, the Z warriors sacrifice themselves yet again, though they are near unconcious. Eventually, Goku turns SSJ while gathering energy, and absorbs the Genki-dama's energy. His aura is so powerful that Super 13's skin begins to melt away. Goku embeds his fist into Super 13's abdomen, and destroys his remains.
Our Thoughts: As far as DBZ movies go, this one is close to the top. It's quite action packed, and blends elements of humor well with the action, so that one can get a little comic relief every now and then. The fight scenes are up to the usual DBZ par, and are very fun to watch. The ending is actually a little anti-climatic; we were hoping for Goku to have another fight at full power with Super #13 after the Genki-dama was absorbed. Even so, however, this movie is definitely worth buying. You won't be dissapointed. |
DBZ Movie #8 - Burnout!! Fierce Fight, Violent Fight, Super-Exciting Fight |

Our Rating:
5.5 of 7 - Longest DBZ movie, compelling story. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 3/6/1993 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The Z warriors (excluding Goku) are introduced to two new surviving Saiya-jin. We find out that one of them is named Paragas, while the other remains temporarily anonymous. These Saiya-jin wish to make a new home for their kind, with Vegita as king. Goku happens to be at a school interview, but is contacted by Kaio-sama and is told that a Saiya-jin of immense power utterly destroyed the South Galaxy, and is now heading towards the North Galaxy bound on wreaking havoc. Meanwhile, the Z warriors have decided to venture to New Vegita, and after arriving catch wind that the legendary Super Saiya-jin is heading towards the North Galaxy. They form a team with Paragas's son Brolli to see if they can find out any extra information, but all they discover is that New Vegita is being constructed mostly by slaves. During their expedition Goku teleports to join them. We soon find out that Paragas knows of a comet which will eventually collide with New Vegita destroying the planet. In the middle of the following night, Brolli attacks Goku, but Paragas is able to stop him by use of a remote control linking to an odd electronic necklace Brolli wears. The next morning, Goku informs Vegita that he has recognized Brolli as the legendary Super Saiya-jin. Trunks then informs his father that New Vegita was simply a ploy, and Paragas confirms this, stating that he and Brolli were disposed of as trash from Old Vegita-sei and left for dead. Thanks to Brolli's awesome powers, they managed to survive. They plan to exact revenge on Vegita and take over Earth. Vegita is afraid of Brolli, after admitting to himself that he really is the legendary SSJ. Brolli has meanwhile broken the control device around his neck and is fighting against all the Z warriors, with the exception of the terrified Vegita. When things are looking grim for the Z warriors, Piccolo arrives with a senzu for everyone. Kuririn and Kame-sennin are able to escape to safety through Piccolo's spaceship, and Vegita finally begins to fight Brolli. The giant comet has already begun to descend on New Vegita, and Paragas attempts to escape in pod, only to be killed by his son. Goku continues to fight Brolli even as the comet descends on them, but to no avail. At last, Piccolo instructs everyone to give their strength to Goku. They do so, but Vegita is too full of pride to commit. Eventually he allows himself, and Goku is given enough power to defeat Brolli. Just as the comet is about to blow New Vegita to smithereens, Goku teleports everyone to safety and a happy ending ensues.
Our Thoughts: This is definitely one of the better DBZ movies. The story of Paragus and Brolli's life on Vegeta is well orchestrated and does not hesitate to be emotional, something which many of the other movies are lacking. The fight scenes between Brolli and the Z warriors are, as always, action packed and animated very well. There is also a peculiar moment of tension and sorrow when Paragas is vanquished by Brolli, but we realize that it is the "way of the Saiya-jin." This movie also has the advantage of being the first appearance of Brolli, so it does not suffer from his character becoming stale (which is beautifully demonstrated in movie #11). |
DBZ Movie #9 - The Galaxy's in Danger! The Super Awesome Guy! |

Our Rating:
      5.5 of 7 - Spectacular battle scenes. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 7/10/1993 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: Movie 9 begins with a tournament, organized as a birthday present for Dollar Money, the son of Gyusan Money, the richest man in the world. The combatants are to fight simultaneously, until there are only four contestants left. At this point, the remaining four were to fight four "aliens" (Idiots dressed up in costumes), and whoever finished first was to fight Mr. Satan for the grand prize. The first half of the movie is mainly comedy, with Gohan, Mirai no Trunks, and Kuririn fighting their way through the tournament, becoming three of the four finalists (The fourth was a huge sumo wrestler named Daisuke). All the while Goku is watching his son from heaven, and Mr. Satan is engaged in his usual antics in trying to get away from "Those people!" The second half begins when, in the final rounds, the four "Aliens" have most obviously been replaced with REAL aliens- led by one named Bojack. Bojack had apparently tried to fight the gods some time ago, and was imprisoned in a star. Kaiou's death during the Cell game freed him, and he was trying to get special revenge on the North Kaiou by taking his student's planet first. Trunks defeats his opponent, but loses to Bojack, while Kuririn and Daisuke both lose to theirs- at the cost of Daisuke's life. Gohan doesn't finish his fight before all of the villains convene and introduce themselves, thus spawning one of the finest one-sided movie fight scenes yet, which lasts until everyone is trashed and Gohan is being crushed to death by Bojack. Goku, breaking the afterlife rules, teleports out of heaven in an effort to save Gohan (He whacks Bojack in the jaw in what was actually a rather funny scene). Gohan then goes SSJ2 and kills two out of the three henchmen (The third expired at BojackÕs hands for showing fear), and Gohan then kills Bojack. The movie ends with everybody recovering in the hospital, a typical happy movie ending.
Our Thoughts: Despite its shortcomings, which I will get into later, Movie 9 was one of the best of the DBZ movies. The fight scenes were well-done, the one-shot characters were creative, the music was incredible, particularly near the end, and it had a good mix of humor and action- not to mention the fact that it actually fit into the DBZ timeline. The only problems were that it was excessively short, that the enemy characters were not developed nearly enough (I hate wasted characters), and that it ended too abruptly. Gohan defeated Bojack with one punch. With those few exceptions, the movie was about as good as any DBZ movie could get, and was actually on par with the series a lot. Being one of the few that Toriyama had a big hand in, I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to find a good DBZ movie. |
DBZ Movie #10 - Dangerous Partners! Super-Warriors Never Rest |

Our Rating:
     4.5 of 7 - Reused plot, corny ending. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 3/12/1994 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The Tenth DBZ movie opens with a strange scene in a dark valley. A dark, powerful figure is unconscious, experiencing vivid flashbacks of Kakarotto defeating him. The scene switches to a happy one of Goten and Trunks searching for the Dragon balls, chaperoned by Videl. Goten wants to wish for lots and lots of food to eat, and Trunks wants the Dragon balls so he can go on lots of adventures (As if the Buu saga isn't enough for them). They have some fun, cute adventures finding the DBs, and eventually make it to the last one, which is strung on the necklace of a village shaman. The villagers are about to sacrifice a young, beautiful maiden to the monster god of the village, in return for their peace and well-being. Goten and Trunks fly off and defeat the monster--a really goofy dinosaur--easily. The villagers congratulate them and give them the Dragon ball, and all three Z soldiers stay in the village overnight. The next morning, Videl goes out early and runs into Brolli, who has inexplicably survived Movie #8, and has also inexplicably lost most of his brain. Brolli mistakes Videl for Kakarotto and knocks her unconscious in a lake, then goes after Goten and Trunks. The two boys spend some time running around, avoiding Brolli, and getting into hi-jinks. This goes on until Gohan steps in for no good reason and tries to fight. There's a really typical fight in which Brolli is covered by lava, and Gohan is rescued by kuririn in a Piccolo outfit. Brolli escapes the lava, and fights back again. Goten wishes that the Dragon would defeat Brolli, and Goku's ghost is resurrected to help them fight. Using a Triple Kamehameha, the Son family knocks Brolli into the white-hot sun. Goku disappears, leaving the question of whether or not he was really there, and everybody goes home happy.
Our Thoughts: Movie #10 was really a letdown after movies 8 and 9. There were a few good parts, such as: The opening scene with Brolli, the scene where Trunks pisses on Brolli's head, and the scene where Kuririn rescues Gohan, and the scene where Goku, Gohan, and Goten destroy Brolli. However, it's the same story once again, and it really does not present us with anything new. Granted, it is better than movie #11, but just by a hair. Watch this movie if you want, but don't expect too much from it. |
DBZ Movie #11 - Crushing Super-Warrior!! I am the Winner |

Our Rating:
2.5 of 7 - Gives #4 a run for its money in overall crapiness. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 7/3/1994 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The movie opens with the emergence of several mutant creatures from their holding tanks, which Jaga plans to use to gain his revenge on Mr. Satan. Elsewhere, the enraged Android 18 trashes Mr. SatanÕs mansion in an effort to collect the 20 million zeni he promised the Artificial Human for throwing the Tenkaichi Budoukai to him. As their bickering ensues, a strange man enters Mr. SatanÕs house with a challenge from Jaga Badda, one of Mr. SatanÕs childhood rivals. Mr. Satan agrees to accompany the man back to JagaÕs castle, and Android 18 Ñ wanting to collect her money Ñ tags along (Goten and Trunks invite themselves and hide out in the trunk of the car). Making his grand entrance to face JagaÕs challenge, Mr. Satan ever so gracefully slips on a banana peal and falls flat on his ass. With blinding speed, JagaÕs mutant creations surround the cowering world champion (some hero, eh?) Satan ÒinvitesÓ Android 18 (his ÒstudentÓ) to take on the mutants. Not wanting to miss out on the action, Goten and Trunks join fight and the three super-warriors quickly extinguish all the mutants at hand. Jaga, angered by yet another defeat at the hands of Mr. Satan, reveals his laboratory full of bio-warriors. As Trunks and Goten investigate, they run across a very familiar specimenÉ Brolli! Not wasting any more time, Jaga orders the release of his super-warrior. [Note: Though heÕs been killed twice before, Brolli is revived once again via a drop of frozen blood collected from the scene of his last demise. Some plot, eh?] However, due to a fluid overflow during his release, Brolli is now covered in genetic-altering goop. Android 18 releases a flurry of attack on the monster, only to be taken down with one swift blow. Trunks then saves Mr. Satan from BrolliÕs attacks, but in doing so causes the release of several thousand gallons of genetic-altering goop. The two Saiya-jins power up, and begin their battle with the legendary Super Saiya-jinÕs third incarnation. The battle ensues, the Saiya-jins become distracted, and Android 18 intervenes, only to be knocked away. Kuririn arrives just in time to save his wife, and the battle continues. The two Saiya-jins are once again distracted by cries for help from Mr. Satan, and are soon in danger of being killed themselves. Kuririn saves Goten, whose head is about to be crushed by Brolli, with a Kienzan, and Trunks draws Brolli away with his patented full-moon-ass-slapping-bird-flipping technique (^_-). Up against a wall, Trunks is saved once again as an entire container of genetic-altering goop empties itself right on top of Brolli. With Brolli out of the way, Trunks, Goten, and Kuririn turn to the task of evacuating JagaÕs island castle. A tidal wave of goop is now engulfing the island, and all efforts on the part of the three Z-Warriors to stop it fail. However, when the goop finally contacts the seawater, the warriors realize itÕs the key to stopping the goop. In what is probably the best scene in the whole movie, the three warriors fire a triple-Kamehameha into the ocean, causing a tidal wave to cleanse the island of the goop. In a final attempt to have his revenge, a much larger Brolli emerges to the ocean, turns to stone, and is blasted to peaces by Trunks and Goten. Finally, back on Kaio-samaÕs planetoid, Goku comments on BrolliÕs never-ending persistence and proceeds to stuff his face. Nani!? ItÕs over!!!
Our Thoughts: I nearly gagged when watching this movie the second time for the purposes of this review. Luckily, I remembered most of the (paper-thin) plot, and was able to fast-forward through damn near the whole thing. Despite all the low points, which encompass nearly the entire movie, this movie does have its moments. For instance, the scene where Trunks pulls off his gi, slaps his ass, and gives Brolly a full moon isÉ well, one of the only humorous scenes. Aw heck, who am I kidding? This movie is just more recycled Brolly garbage. End of story. |
DBZ Movie #12 - The Rebirth of Fusion! Goku and Vegita! |

Our Rating:
6 of 7 - Features one of the best villains in the series, really amusing at times. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 3/4/1995 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: The trouble starts when a careless teenage...heaven dweller, we'll call him, neglects to change the tanks of the "soul laundry machine", which cleans souls that are going to hell. When the tanks explode, the heaven dwelling kid becomes possessed and turns into Janenba, a huge blob-like creature. Janemba changes the laws of the afterworld and creates much havoc, including bringing such characters back to life as Furiza and his minions and all of the other dead. Pikehan and Goku try to free the Demon lord (who has been imprisoned in a bubble of sorts) and distract Janemba, it becomes evident that this tubby bastard's magic is almost invincible. While Pikehan shouts insults at the Demon lord's prison, Goku strikes back against the Jell-o menace. It looks as though Goku has won, when Janenba transforms into a smaller, deadlier fighter, whom Goku cannot defeat. When Vegita shows up, he too realizes that he cannot beat Janenba, so Goku convinces Vegita to fuse with him (after much petulance and whining). Unfortunately, Vegita screws up the fusion dance, which is amusing in and of itself, and they turn into fat Gogita for 30 minutes. During this moment of weakness, Gogita gets the living snot beaten out of him. Meanwhile, Gohan, Videl, Goten, and Trunks are taking care of the masses of undead that now walk the Earth (Including Hitler and his army of tanks!). They prove to be no match for our seasoned warriors. When the Fat Gogita transformation wears off, Pikehan buys Goku and Vegita the time to fuse correctly. In this new form of Gogita, Janemba is easily defeated and the rules of the afterworld return to normal and the generic happy ending ensues.
Our Thoughts: This movie is probably the most amusing from DBZ. But as with most of the movies, it really is too short to develop a good plot. The fight scenes are some of the best in the series (Janemba's sword is damn cool). The scenes with Trunks and Goten fighting the undead are quite humorous, especially when Hitler attempts to conquer the world again. |
DBZ Movie #13 - Dragon Fist Explosion!! If Goku Can't, Who Can? |

Our Rating:
      5.5 of 7 - Wonderful animation, decent overall. |
Released in: Japan Japanese Release Date: 7/15/1995 Producer: Toei
Synopsis: As the movie begins, we are presented with a flashback. In it, a young boy with elf like ears and a sword (think Link with an orange Mohawk) is fighting a gigantic monster. Despite his masterful sword handling skills however, the boy is defeated. Time jumps forward to a point somewhere around the 25th Budoukai. As Gohan and Videl sit in class, Gohan receives a message on his wristwatch informing him that his assistance is needed in order to save an old man who is contemplating suicide. After saving the old man, Gohan learns that the old man only attempted to jump off a building in order to get his attention. The old man produces a golden music box, which he tells them contains a legendary warrior who has been trapped for ages. After several attempts to open the box using Goku's shear strength and Bulma's technological expertise, the warriors collect the Dragonballs and summon Shenlon to release Tapion, the warrior who is trapped inside the box. The box shatters at Tapion is released, and Trunks and Goten marvel over the legendary warrior. After inquiring as to his surroundings, Tapion informs them that he must be returned to the box at once, or the Earth will surely be destroyed. Tapion walks off as the Z Warriors contemplate the events that just took place. The following day Hildegarn, a large monster, is reeking havoc on the city. Gohan tries unsuccessfully to defeat the monster with several very large Ki blasts. However, the monster does not subside until Tapion arrives, and plays a tune on his flute, which causes the monster to disappear in a puff of smoke. The following day, Bulma attempts to build a device that will contain the monster and Tapion as well as the music box did. Unfortunately, as Tapion sleeps inside the device that night, the monster escapes from within him, and reeks havoc on the city once again. After a long and drawn out battle with Hildegarn, Goku decides to use a technique that he has never used before. He goes SSJ3, powers up, leaps into the air, extends his fist, and shouts "Ryu Ken". Hildegarn explodes in a flash of light. After the battle, Tapion presents Trunks with his sword, saying he won't need it anymore, and flies off. Neither the monster, nor Tapion are ever heard from again.
Our Thoughts: Movie 13 is probably one of the better features in the DBZ series. Only the second in the series to use computer-generated graphics, the visuals are striking. The camera's pans and zooms are superb, and even the non-computer-generated animation is commendable. The sound track, while not the best, is one of the better, featuring a wide range of high quality original and true-to-the-original music. As always, the voice acting is outstanding, far surpassing the meager limits of FUNimaton's dubs. The story is intriguing, and even attempts to explain a few things that transpire during the series (most notably, how Trunks acquired his sword). The movie runs a bit longer than most other Dragonball Z films, albeit not nearly as long as movie 8, and achieves a nearly perfect length in doing so. Overall this movie is quite enjoyable, and is a must-have addition to any Dragonball Z otaku collection. |
Saga Summaries
The Vegeta Saga |
Goku is out getting wood for ChiChi to make dinner. He brings the wood and ChiChi asks where Gohan is. He shrugs and starts looking for Gohan.
Meanwhile, a round spaceship lands on the planet. A farmer comes to see the ship when a strong looking Saiya-jin comes out of the ship. The curious and scared farmer shoots the man with his shot gun and the Saiya-jin catches the bullet and flings it back at the farmer, killing him. He flies away yelling, "KAKOROTTO!!"
Gohan is in the forest playing with a puma. He then falls down a river on a log and screaming "DAD!". Goku hears him and comes to the rescue.
They then fly to the Kame-house where they meet everybody. When suddenly, the alien arrives. He claims he is Goku's brother and orders him to kill 100 people or he will kill his son. Out of nowhere, Piccolo arrives and says he was encountered by Radditz and agrees to team up and kill Radditz.
They find him because of the dragonball on Gohan's hat and fight Radditz. During the battle, Piccolo loses a limb and Goku is badly injured. Gohan then gets ticked off and strikes a blow to Radditz's stomach. The now weaker Radditz was held by Goku while Piccolo fired his special beam attack at them. It killed them both and Piccolo takes Gohan to train him.
Goku then goes to heaven and is told to cross snake way to get train on a planet. He gets tired and is offered a ride from the road cleaner. While he is sleeping, he falls off and ends up in hell. He races an ogre in hell and wins, granting him permission to the secret passage. He has to restart his journy from the beggining but is powered up from a fruit that was found in hell. He defeats princess snake and finally gets to the planet.
On the planet, He trains under 10 times gravity and learns the Kaiohken and Genki-Dama. Genki-dama allowed Goku to summon energy up from the universe and then fire it. He trained with other inhabitants of the planet for the rest of the year.
The 2 other Saiya-jins arrive after destroying a planet and Yamcha is killed when one of Nappa's men self-destructed. Chiaotzu and Tien sacrificed themselves to kill Nappa but failed. Piccolo jumps in front of a fireball killing him, but saving Gohan. At this time, Goku is wished back to life and races through snake way to get to earth.
Goku arrives just in time to save Gohan and Krillin by using his Kaioken. Vegeta gets pissed off at Nappa for trying to kill Goku and Vegeta kills Nappa. The battle is then "Vegeta vs. Goku". Vegeta turns into the big monkey guy but Yajirobe cowardly cuts off his tail. Gohan then turns into the huge monkey guy and hurts Vegeta BAD. Krillin spares Vegeta's life and lets him get away.
Bulma and others come to save everyone. Unfortunately, when Piccolo died, so did Kami. And without Kami, there can't be dragonballs. They realize that Piccolo came from the planet Namek, so Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan travel there in a space capsule hoping to find more powerful dragonballs to wish their friends back... |
The Frieza Saga |
It starts out where Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan have to go to planet Namek for the dragonballs. Goku was injured so bad that he had to stay but Bulma, Krillin, and Gohan could use the Capsule that Kami used to get from Namek to Earth. The journey was around 2 months long and was filled with lots of danger. This included the Ark Children, Raachi, and Zaakro (They could create illusions). But that was the least of their problems. They still had Frieza to worry about. With him being the most powerful being alive, it looked as if Gohan and Krillin didn't have a chance (Frieza heard about the Dragonballs and wanted them also..). Although he was very powerful, he wished to use the Dragonballs for immortality.
Aftering being healed by a senzu bean, Goku set off for Namek in a specially designed spaceship, training hard in 100 times gravity. Meanwhile, Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien, and Chaozu served as Kaiou's pupils. Vegeta was also healed and stronger than ever, heading for Namek for the dragon balls and the hatred for Goku in his black heart. Vegeta was able to kill Dedoria, Kiwi, and Zarbon, becoming stronger after every battle.
Frieza killed all the Namekians except Nail, Dende, and Saichoro while Vegeta captured all the seven dragon balls (with six from Frieza and one from Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma). As a desperate measure, Frieza summoned Team Ginyu, a team of five strong fighters. Even with their ki increased by Saichoro and with Vegeta assisting them, Krillin and Gohan were losing to the Ginyu Team, allowing them to take the dragonballs to Frieza. Frieza was unable to activate the dragon balls and flew to Saichoro to seek out the answer. Luckily, Goku arrived to defeat Recoome, Guldo, and Jeice, allowing Vegeta to kill them. Vegeta wondered if Goku was the legendary Super Saiya-jin. Ginyu knew he could not surpass Goku's power so he switched bodies with Goku. The battle concluded with Goku returning to his own body and Ginyu trapped in a frog's body.
Dende, Krillin and Gohan were able to steal the dragonballs from Frieza and wish back Piccolo. With the dragonballs from Namek, they could have three wishes, just as they were wishing Vegeta with immortality, Frieza killed Saichoro and injured Nail, interrupting the wish for immortality. The now pissed off Frieza hurt Krillin and Gohan but Dende healed them. Frieza turned into his second form but Piccolo and Nail merged together and started kickin Frieza's butt. At that time, Frieza turned into his 3rd form while Goku was healing.
As Frieza turned into his fourth form, he killed Vegeta for telling the Super-Saijin story to Goku (he was scared of the legend). Goku shot a Genki Dama at Frieza and that ticked him off. He killed Krillin out of rage and that triggered Goku's transformation into Super Saiya-jin. The thing about this is, they might destroy Namek, which is where the dragonballs come from... Everybody traveled back to earth with the new dragonballs. Porunga revived Krillin but wasn't able to revive Goku, it seemed that he survived the explosion and was training on another planet. Vegeta left earth alone for now, training in space.
One year later Frieza is put back together in a robotic form by his father, King Cold. They arrive on Earth with an army, all hope is lost by the Z fighters, and even Vegeta thinks so when he was revived by the DragonBalls. Suddenly, a teenager comes out of nowhere, beats the crap out of Frieza. Not only that, he is a Saiyan! Turning Super Saiyan, he kills Frieza and King Cold with his sword easily. All he says is that he is waiting for Son Goku, then Son Goku appears out of nowhere. Son Goku tells of his troubles and also demonstrates his new teleportation technique. The teenager says that his name is Trunks. He is also the son of Bulma and Vegeta! He is from the future and comes back in time to warn the Z warriors of androids that will terrorize the world in three years. Trunks also says that Son Goku will die from a heart disease. Trunks though has brought medicine for him. Trunks says that he will come back in three years to fight the androids. Now the Z warriors must train for the androids arriving in three years. |
The Cell Saga |
Three years passed since Trunks' arrival. A lot has changed since then, Trunks from the future is now called Miari Trunks since Chibi Trunks is born, and Vegeta joins the Z warriors, but having the same attitude. Miari Trunks arrives from the future to find that there is another android, Android #16. The androids in Miari Trunks' timeline are #17 and #18. Also the creator, Dr. Gero, turns himself into Android #21. He is easily defeated by Vegeta who learns how to turn Super Saiyan during his training. Right before he dies, he issues the final command for Android #22 (Cell). Cell is made of single cells from the strongest warriors in the univerese. Cell breaks out of his test tube and seeks to absorb #17 and #18. When Cell finally absorbs the androids, he turns into Perfect Cell. No one can offer a challenge so he starts thinking of all the fights as games (Hence the title, Cell Game). Cell later announces that he will hold a tournament to the warriors that think they can defeat him.
The tournament begins. First, a fighter from Earth, who is really a coward that takes all the credit and is really weak, Mr. Satan. He gets defeated easily by a slap from Cell. Then, Son Gokou fights with Cell, the battle ends with the winner Son Gokou. But Cell gets so mad that he self-destructs and blow up the whole Solar System. He blows up killing both Gokou and Kaiosama. Everyone was sad, but the battle wasn't over yet, Cell somehow regenerated from just one cell from his body, and decides to take Gohan as his next challenger. He tries to piss off Gohan so that he will be more challenging. The plan works when he creates seven Baby Cells who kills his friends. And he kills #16 with a surpise attack. Gohan gets pushed off the edge and powers up and reaches SSJ2, then Cell realizes that he over did it. Gohan defeats the Baby Cells with just one kick to each of them. Son Gohan starts to attack Cell. As the battle goes on, Gohan's right arm gets crippled. He creates a Kamehameha, Cell then creates his own Kamehameha, a stalement is drawn only with the encouragement of his dead father. Son Gohan over powers Cell and kills him with only one arm! Everyone is wished back to life except Son Gokou because he was already wished back to life once. But Gokou was proud of his son and watched over him in the heavens, while King Kaiosama kept on yelling at Gokou for bringing Cell to his planet. Miari Trunks later returns to his own time. |
The Buu Saga |
Seven years pass since the Cell Game. Krillin marries #18 (who was wished to human by the DragonBalls) and has a daughter named Marron. Chi-Chi has a second son named Son Goten. Son Goten and Trunks (Chibi) turned SSJ at an early age. Son Gohan has a girl friend named Videl, the daughter of Satan ( Satan takes all the credit for killing Cell, this got him really famous ), Son Gohan is also a super hero named the Great SaiyanMan. During The Tenkaichu-Boudoukai, Son Gokou is granted a single day of life to meet with Gohan, Goten, Trunks, Chi-Chi, and all the Z warriors, including Vegeta. Two of Buu's slaves steal Son Gohan's energy, then a man named Kaiosen revives Son Gohan, he then tells of an evil demon named Buu trying to destroy the Earth. If Buu's slaves gather enough energy, he will be revived. Vegeta learning that he can become stronger by turning into Buu's slave, turns evil again. This time he is Majin Vegeta and can turn to SSJ2. This gives Buu enough energy to be revived. Gokou then learns to turn to SSJ2 and fights him and convinces him that good always triumphs over evil. Vegeta finally realizes and self-destructs in hope to kill Buu. Son Gokou then heads to battle aganist Buu. Son Gokou turns SSJ2, and SSJ3! But he still can't defeat Buu. Later, Son Gohan heads to the Kaoiu-sin's planet for training. Then before Son Gokou's time is up on Earth he teaches Son Goten and Trunks the fusion technique, then they get trained by Piccolo so they can be strong enough to beat Buu. Soon after Son Goten and Trunks fuse to become Gotenks, Gotenks turns SSJ1, and then, SSJ3! But Buu has made a twin of himself, but he is a lot more evil than Buu, he even absorbed Buu and thus turning him into Super Buu. Gotenks is defeating Super Buu, but Gotenks is an inexperienced and careless fighter. Buu absorbs Gotenks and becomes a lot stronger, and then he absorbs Piccolo. Dia Kaoiusin then sacrifices his life so Son Gokou can live. Gokou then gets a pair of Potara Earrings for fusion, this way the fused person won't diffuse in 30 min. Son Gokou now alive teleports to the battle. Then King Yama grants Vegeta life to fight Buu. When Son Gokou arrives to the scene he tells Son Gohan to fuse with him, Son Gokou then throws a fusion earing at Son Gohan. Son Gohan drops the earing and Buu absorbs Son Gohan, thus turning himself into Ultimate Buu. Then Vegeta comes to the scene. Vegeta then fuses with Son Gokou to become, Vegitto. Vegitto defeats Buu but purposely gets absorbed to rescue their friends. This somehow wears off the permenent fusion. They rescue Son Goten, Son Gohan, Trunks, Piccolo, and Fat Buu through Ultimate Buu's pores. All of the energy that Buu has taken restores him back to his normal form, Majin Buu. Then he destroys the Earth. Kaoiu-sin teleports to help Son Gokou teleport Vegeta, Satan, his dog, and Dende to Kaoiu-sin's planet. Vegeta gets angry because he rescued them instead of his son and the rest of the Z fighters. Son Gokou was speechless. But there wasn't any time for that, Majin Buu also teleports to the planet Gokou's on, and start to fight. Then Son Gokou starts to get beaten up badly. Vegeta jumps into battle so Son Goku can create a Genki-Dami. The Namek DragonBalls are gathered to wish back the Earth and to wish back everyone killed by Buu. The third wish is stored for later use. Son Gokou's Genki-Dami (Energy given by the Nameks, the people in the Heavens, and everyone on Earth) is ready to throw, Son Gokou throws it, and Buu pushes it back. Vegeta tells Dende to wish back all of Son Goku's strength back. Now with all his strength restored Son Goku throws back the Genki-Dami at Buu. Buu can't counter it any longer, so he is killed. Ten years after the battle aganist Majin Buu, Fat Buu is revived into an evil cleansed form called Uboo. Son Gokou decides to train him since he has great potential. Son Gohan and Videl get married and have a daughter named Pan. This concludes DragonBall Z.
Dragonball Z - Saiya-jin Saga
Seven years have passed since the end of the Dragonball series, and Goku has settled down after he and Chichi have their first child, Gohan. All is peaceful until Goku's evil brother, Raditsu, lands on the Earth. He tells Goku that he belongs to an alien race known as the Saiya-jin, and that he was supposed to exterminate all life on the planet so that it could be sold to the highest bidder. However, since Goku hit his head as a kid, he forgot his orders and became a peace-loving child. Raditsu offered Goku to join him in conquering the universe, but of course he was turned down. Angered that he would not do his bidding, Raditsu kidnaps Gohan.
Obviously overpowered, Goku teams up with his arch-rival Piccolo to get his son back. Both attacking at the same time, Goku and Piccolo are still no match for the battle-hardened Raditsu. Piccolo tells Goku of a new attack he has been working on, one that should be able to defeat Raditsu. However, it takes a long time to charge up, so Goku has to face Raditsu alone for five minutes. Goku puts up a good fight, but gets socked around quite a bit. Piccolo fires his Makankosappo while Raditsu is busy with Goku, but he misses. Gohan, enraged by the pain being done to his father, attacks Raditsu and greatly weakens him. Goku manages to get Raditsu in a hold, and tells Piccolo to charge his attack again. Piccolo fires the Makankosappo a second time, hitting both Raditsu and Goku. They both die in a matter of minutes.
Before dying, Raditsu is told about the Dragon balls and their power to grant any wish. He signals the other two Saiya-jins, Nappa and Vegita, to come to Earth so that they may take the dragonballs for themselves. The journey to Earth takes one year, giving the Earthlings little time to prepare. Meanwhile in heaven, Goku begins his voyage to the Kaio of the North in hopes of growing more powerful for the coming evil. Kaio-sama's planetoid exists at the end of a ten-thousand mile long snake path.
Months have passed on the Snake Way, and Goku has yet to find Kaio-sama's home. Offered a ride by a passing demon, Goku falls fast asleep. Unfortunately, a bump in the path sends Goku flying off the machine and into Hell. When Goku wakes up, he is confused to find two demons looking over him. They tell him that he has fallen off Snake Way, and that the only way out was to beat them in a contest. Goku easily wins both times, and is shown the exit to Hell. He is surprised to find that the exit is merely Enma-sama's droor, and that he has to start his journey all over again.
Meanwhile, Piccolo begins to teach Gohan how to survive on his own in the wilderness while still training on his own. He gives Goku's son little help in his battle against dinosaurs and the elements. Yet Gohan is not to be under-estimated, and he does quite well on his own. When Piccolo feels he is ready, he begins a rigorous training routine that leaves Gohan beaten to a pulp. Slowly but surely, Gohan's power is tapped into.
Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and Yajirobe head off to Kami-sama's tower to train for the arrival of the Saiya-jins. Their various methods prove to be effective, and they manage to each raise their power levels over a thousand.
When Goku finally reaches Kaio-sama, he undertakes a series of training exercises that seem trivial and pointless to Goku (Not only that, but he has to withstand Kaio's lame humor). His first task is to catch Kaio's pet monkey Bubbles, who is used to the high gravity of the planet. Goku finds that it's quite a chore to chase after something in 10x gravity, but eventually he grows used to the heavy force. Through the use of some clever tricks, Goku captures the monkey. Son's second task involves hitting Gregory, a flying cricket creature, with a heavy mallet. Nearly destroying the planetoid in the process, Goku manages to complete the second part of his training with ease. It's at this time that Kaio finally teaches our hero some techniques: The Genki-dama and Kaio-ken power-up. With only a few days before the Saiya-jins are supposed to arrive, Goku has to make the trip along Snake Way in the opposite direction. Luckily, his training had improved his speed and power exponentially.
A year has passed, and the Saiya-jins land in a heavily populated city. After destroying it, they head to battle Piccolo and the others. Assessing their opponents, Vegita notices that one of the warriors, Piccolo, is an alien known as a Namek. The Saiya-jins unleash six Saibamen, each roughly as powerful as Raditsu was. Vegita suggests that the Earthlings fight the Saibamen one on one, and they agree. Tenshinhan is the first to go, and makes short work of the first Saibaman. Yamcha goes next, and appears to be winning until his opponent grabs hold of him and self-destructs (Killing both). Growing bored with the situation, Vegita has all the Saibamen attack at once. The small green aliens prove to be no match for the seasoned Z warriors. With their minions gone, Nappa joins into the fray. Our heros are unable to land many hits, and take a lot of damage. Both Tenshinhan and Chaozu sacrifice their lives trying to defeat the muscular Saiya-jin, but neither succeed.
Kuririn tells Vegita to wait for Goku to arrive, as then they would have a fighting chance. They wait for three hours, but no Goku. The battle resumes, when finally Son gets back to Earth. Seeing that Goku might be a problem, Vegita orders Nappa to kill the others before Goku arrives. The large brute decides to go after Gohan first, and charges a powerful attack. However, Piccolo had grown to love Gohan over the year he had spent training him, and the Namek put himself in the way of Nappa's attack. Kuririn and Gohan are the only survivors when Goku finally joins the battle. Angered by the death of his friends, Goku maintains his cool and stay calm battling Nappa. Vegita's bodyguard is unable to land any blows, and the Saiya-jin prince takes Nappa out himself.
Goku and Vegita square off, beginning their long duel. While Goku manages to hurt Vegita badly, his repeated use of the Kaio-ken technique puts a great strain on his body. Seeing that he was overpowered, Vegita transforms himself into an Oozaru. Goku is chased around by the giant ape, and with the use of a Taiyoken for distraction, he is able to gather a Genki-dama. Unfortunately, Vegita recovers before the attack can be launched, and most of the energy is lost. He grabs onto Goku and breaks every bone in his body, but neglects to notice Yajirobe sneaking up behind him. With one swipe, Vegita's tail is severed by Yajirobe's sword.
Back in his original form, Vegita begins to do battle with Gohan. Meanwhile, Goku summons Kuririn and gives him the remnants of the Genki-dama he had gathered. Just when it looks as if Gohan will be defeated, Kuririn launches the ball at Vegita. He evades it, but Gohan bounces the attack and hits Vegita from the rear.
Thinking Vegita is dead, our heros begin to celebrate. However, they notice Vegita's body slowly falling to the ground. He is still alive. Vegita and Gohan resume their battle, and it looks like the Saiya-jin prince will claim victory. However, Yajirobe intervenes again, and slashes Vegita in the back with his sword. When he gets over the shock of being slashed from behind, Vegita kicks the crap out of our fat samurai friend. This gives Gohan ample time to stare up at the false moon Vegita had created and transform into an Oozaru.
With little energy to defend himself, Vegita is smacked around by Gohan. Having exhausted himself, Vegita uses a Kienzan to remove Gohan's tail. What he doesn't account for is having enough strength to get out of the way of the monkey's massive body. He is painfully crushed by the ape, who returns to being normal Gohan after a few moments. Vegita summons his space pod, and tries to crawl to it. Kuririn refuses to let him escape, and puts Yajirobe's sword up to Vegita's throat. Goku begs him to spare the Saiya-jin's life, and reluctantly Kuririn complies. Vowing to return, Vegita flies away... |
